Here’s a question? What do Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, and Barry Chuckle have in common?

One Picture…and not even a good one!

Would you like your Facebook page to have 13,613 Likes with the minimum of effort?

Stick with me, this isn’t a joke, and it’s not some get rich quick post – honest!

What about having 181,987 Likes or even 217,532?

All you have to do is post the SAME picture EVERY DAY – and absolutely nothing else! Really!

socialmediacompanydevonuk_catsontheinternetThese Facebook sites can monetise and make money. Whether they do or not is another story, but there are some great lessons here on what make a great Facebook page and what gets Likes and Shares. These sites are clearly not about variety! They’re not about juicy gossip or link-baiting, or even quality images!

They focus on a niche and on what people find funny or quirky.

It’s a variation of ANY cats on the internet pics which spread across the globe – and it works. The Cool Cat in the red pinstripe was my Profile pic on Facebook for many months. Because. It’s a cat!

As I said on the post at that time “It’s cats, with clothes. Like humans. Except they have sunglasses on. Like people. But they’re not people, see. They’re cats.” Welcome to my mind! 😀

The comments and the sub memes are brilliant and worth reading on these “The Same Photo of….Every Day” pages. People who are Liking and Sharing are providing more CONTENT which also gets Likes and Shares.

So the love spreads.

My finger is seriously hovering over the Like button – especially on the Jeff Goldblum page. Some of the sub memes on there are funny. Not CAT funny, but funny.

So, who has the most Likes? Can you guess?

Jeff Goldblum has 181,987, Jim Carrey has 217,532, and Barry Chuckle with the same low res pic every day has 13,613.

There are more of these sites if you wish to explore, including Glenn Danzig, Seth Rogen, Nicolas Cage, Morgan Freeman, and Brick from Anchorman. If you have the time or no friends 😉

Anyway, here’s the links – enjoy!

Continuing with our sales theme this week, have a look at the following video. This is a guy who is making a great deal of money because he knows his audience, his niche market.

Personally, I don’t believe any of it, but that’s neither here nor there. The reason a guy like this can be (very) successful is because of how easily people can mistake earnestness and sincerity with truthfulness and certainty.

HE clearly believes what he is saying!

It would be fun to research his claims! Where did he get his “facts”? Are the claims made up or found in mystical texts? What does he mean, by “frequency”? Can those frequencies be measured with real instruments or equipment?

So many questions!

If you want some answers, we have a Sun Chocolate Frequency Measuring Crystal Chakra Alignment Kit for sale. It’s only £997.

Contact us today with your credit card details, and the keys to your house and car. 😉

“When people ask for time, it’s always for time to say no. Yes has one more letter in it, but it doesn’t take half as long to say.”

Edith Wharton 24th Jan 1862 – 11th Aug 1937

digitalmarketingbarnstaple_createscarcityThis week we’ll focus on increasing sales. Nothing happens without a sale. There is no business, no marketing, no support, no money! Yet so few businesses – especially small businesses – focus on the sales process, or the sales funnel if we are talking about online sales.

So I thought we’d start the week off by talking about using scarcity as an ethical tactic to increasing sales.

We’ve all had this – and done it ourselves; “I need to think about it”. If a prospect says they want to think about it, it means they aren’t coming back. They might mean to. But so much happens. There are so many distractions, conversations, jobs to be done. There could be a multitude of genuine reasons for not getting back to you, but nothing means “no” unless they say “no” – and even then you can still ask why!digitalmarketingbarnstapledevon_createscarcity

But everything they say besides “no” which still results in them walking away may as well be considered as a no. It’s hardly ever – as in practically never – going to result in a sale.

So how many ways do you have to eliminate the prospect’s ability to waffle over time? Scarcity is one way. Urgency is another. Rarity is yet another.

In practical terms:

  • The price goes up.
  • The bonus goes away.
  • Supplies are limited.
  • There are only a few spots left.
  • I have another guy interested in it coming by later.
  • Your competition is gaining on you, or increasing their lead.
  • Time is of the essence, act now and get a free gift.

digitalmarketingdevon_createscarcityI used the word “ethical” at the beginning and I do mean do the right thing. If you say that the offer ends on Monday, then it ends. If you offer a bonus to the first 20, then no more after that. You have to be sincere and stick to what you have said.

Some businesses have said that they don’t want to turn away a sale after the deadline but you have to. The deadline is the deadline. It will help your business grow in the long run as people see that you stick by your word. They will be “trained” in future when they see another offer or bonus. They’ll act on it quicker so as not to miss out again.

So, how does this apply to online sales and your website? There are various ways we can use…

  • A pop up with a special offer.
  • A countdown timer with a deadline.
  • A bonus which is created to add to the initial offer if purchased within a certain time.
  • A product which goes up in price with every sale, so people can see the price increase when they revisit the site.
  • A limited edition product with a countdown – only 5 left.
  • Cookies! You’ve all seen it. You do a Google search for a lawnmower and then lawnmower adverts follow you around online all day, on every site you visit.digitalmarketingexeter_createscarcity
  • A “chat now” pop up which allows people to engage with you online while they are on your site.

All of these are methods you will see when surfing the ‘net. Why? Because they work!

Following on from our previous Post regarding colour, the next obvious question (to us anyway!) is does colour make a difference on your website? We could also ask does colour actually affect conversions – do we get more sales or enquiries if we choose certain colours?

The “best” colour for websites has been debated over recent years and even though there is no hard and fast rule as we’re all affected by colour differently, there are some points to bear in mind.

webdesigndevon_colourwebsitedesigncompanySo, if it’s definitely true that there is no single best colour for conversions on your website, what does work?
The psychological principle known as the Isolation Effect states that an item that “stands out like a sore thumb” is more likely to be remembered. Research clearly shows that participants are able to recognise and recall an item far better (be it text or an image) when it blatantly sticks out from its surroundings.

On the site page above, the sign-up button stands out because it’s like a red “island” in a sea of blue. So it’s NOT the colour red that gets a response, it’s the fact that the red button stands out from the rest of that page.

Another way to think of this is to utilise background, base and accent colours. What we do is “train” visitors that the red button in our example (but it could be green, blue, yellow, purple, or whatever), is a cue to take action. So when visitors see something in red they “know” what to do!

So, does a big red button work? Have a look at the two sites below – which do you think had the best conversions?

webdesigndevon_digitalmarketingdevon

The only real difference between these two site pages are the button change from green to red, but the change from green to red boosted conversions by 21%. Does that mean that red holds some sort of magic power to get people to take action?

If you look closer at the image, both pages are stylised in a pale green palette, which means the green call to action button blends into the surroundings. On the other page, the red button is a stark visual contrast, resulting in a boost by 21%, but that button could have been any stand-out colour!

Remember, “What stands out gets remembered, what blends in gets ignored.”

So it’s NOT the big red button at all! It’s the overall colour theme of your site complemented by good, bright, stand-out colours for your call to action cues. So anything like “buy now” or “free catalogue” should stand out. Visitors to your site get “trained” when they visit your landing page by seeing that the stand-out colour means TAKE ACTION, then when the call to action is used on other pages they instinctively know that the colour means do something; CLICK HERE!
